A ceramic artist who
makes Art for Architecture

The
Ride:
involved
designing and creating a 50 ft. x 4 ft. mural, made from nearly 1500 porcelain,
handmade
relief tiles,
with colored, fired clay surfaces, for the Central (bus) Station in Grand
Rapids, Michigan.

Statement of
The Assignment: “Create a work of art, using a bus
transportation theme that enhances the architecture of the building and welcomes
patrons using overland and The Rapid buses.” The artist chose to show scenes that can
be seen while riding The Rapid buses to illustrate
the beauty of Grand Rapids, suggesting the bus routes with the blue street line and
representing the Grand River symbolically in the border. |
